RMM Setup Guide
Table of Contents
If you're a Technical Leader or Internal IT Director who's new to Syncro, here are some important first steps you should take to get Syncro's Remote Monitoring and Management features configured for your business and your team.
Notes:
- Throughout the documentation, you'll sometimes see text in italic font. This means the term is defined in our Syncro Glossary.
- For a high-level overview of where things are in Syncro, see About the Syncro Header & Primary Navigation Bar.
- You can also download this guide as a PDF.
Step 1: Create a Policy
A Policy is a collection of checks and monitors you create and apply to Assets. Policies reflect your Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). For example, you can use a policy to configure Windows updates, monitor the event log, and schedule scripts.
Syncro's Policy Builder contains various policy categories and associated policy modules, which you can combine in ways that best suit your needs.

Use the step-by-step instructions in Create a Policy and do this now.
Step 2: Assign a Policy
Once you create your policies, you can assign them to Assets both directly and indirectly through folders.
This is called policy inheritance, or “cascading policies," which works similarly to GPO. Policy inheritance can help you build more complex structures as your business grows.

Use the step-by-step instructions in Assign a Policy and do this now.
Step 3: Create an RMM Agent Installer
To bring devices into the Syncro's RMM ecosystem, you'll need to install the Syncro Agent on them. Installing the Syncro Agent—also known as the RMM Agent Installer—is what transforms a device into an officially managed Asset.
Both Windows and Mac Agents are available, and if a device isn't capable of having an agent installed, you can also manually create one.

Use the step-by-step instructions in Install a Syncro Agent on a Device and do this now.
Tips:
- When you use Syncro's Network Discovery feature, you can potentially discover unmanaged assets and even quickly install the Syncro Agent on several of them at once.
- It's also a good idea to enable SNMP on your Assets.
Step 4: Customize Columns in the Assets Table
Next, we'll use the Assets table as an example of how you might want to customize your tables to find the exact information you're looking for. Many of our tables offer sorting and filtering, grouping, hiding, and pinning.

Read more specifically about the Assets table. Optionally, learn more about how you can generally use tables in Syncro.
Step 5: Assign End Users to Assets
Most times Assets belong to specific End Users, so it's a good idea to connect End Users with their Assets when possible.
You can assign End Users to Assets from an Asset's Details Page, in the Owner Information section (the "Assigned Contact" field).
Note: End Users were formerly known as Contacts. For the time being, you may see both terms used in the product.

Navigate to the Details Page for an Asset you created, and assign the asset to an End User.
Step 6: Create a Saved Asset Search
If you repeatedly search for Assets that meet certain criteria, you may want to create and save a custom asset search.
For example, if you want to regularly reach out to Organizations whose assets are missing an antivirus, you can create a custom asset search with the “Missing Antivirus” box checked to easily locate them.
